About Illinois Adult Education Economic and demographic changes are dramatically increasing the need for adult education, literacy, and English as a Second Language programs. Millions of Illinois residents lack the literacy skills that they need to obtain good jobs and to function well in an increasingly complex society. Adult Education and a variety of other literacy programs help adults obtain the basic skills they need to be more productive workers. The major programs are Adult Basic Education, Adult Secondary Education, and English Language Acquisition.
The IACEA conference is Illinois’s premier event for adult education practitioners. This three day conference will provide professional development and networking opportunities for people in all adult education roles and capacities. Adult Education provides students with a variety of services including high school equivalency (HSE) preparation classes at no cost.
Available services through the Adult Education program are GED® Preparation classes, basic literacy, and math skills development classes, ESL classes, and one-on-one tutoring. The Adult Education staff meets with students to understand their personalized academic goals, and then assess which classes and programs best meet these goals.
